Track Day 06th August 2024

The UOW Motorsport team arrived early at Sydney Motorsport Park for a productive track day, with a specific focus on preparing drivers for competition layouts and training for endurance runs. The team set up on the skid pan, and the shakedown went smoothly, with the car performing flawlessly under ideal sunny conditions.

The morning included a minor incident where a driver exited a corner with excessive throttle, sending the car into the grass. This provided valuable lessons in throttle control. High-speed acceleration tests followed, showcasing promising stability, while adjustments to the track layout introduced new low-speed challenges, enhancing the day’s learning opportunities.

Mechanical tweaks, including chain tension adjustments, ensured the car’s safety and reliability during endurance testing. Drivers completed long stints, demonstrating increasing speed despite fatigue, though driver fitness emerged as an area for improvement. The car successfully completed 29 endurance laps, simulating competition conditions.

In the afternoon, the team transitioned to an autocross layout, allowing drivers to refine precision and adaptability. The day concluded with a cool-down session for aerodynamic and drag testing, yielding additional insights for future developments and improvements that could help the team achieve peak aerodynamic performance.

The track day was a success, with the team gathering valuable data and delivering a promising performance from both the car and drivers. The team is well on track for the FSAE-A competition.
